OUGD501 - Studio Brief 02: Outcomes: Outcomes / Evaluating results

Evidence of your final outcome/solution. You must critically explain / justify your solution in reference to the brief / audience. You must also explain how your final solution relates to your critical writing/research using at least 3 references.

Evidence of final outcome/solution

The final solution for the brief problem was to help online users to restrain the amount of advertisement (either as an image/video.) specially on well used social media platforms. This will not only help the consumers feel at ease and less irritated by the various of adverts, but will also safe brands from losing their consumers in online business.

My final solution relates to my critical writing and research:

  • It helps all genders and people of all ages - Nowadays media is very vast and open to anyone. Their is no restriction when browsing on the internet or finding something online. Take YouTube as an example, this popular website has all kind of videos that anyone can watch anytime and any day. However, YouTube has create an advert that must be watch before the viewer is able to watch their select video. This can become very irritable for the users as the videos are quite long and sometimes non skippable. Therefore this is a disadvantage as not only the audience will not watch as many videos as they could but could also ruin the relationship of the consumers with the brands that they like to purchase from. In conclusion with this app solution the person can choose which adverts he/she would like to see before the video. Then there is an option of switching the advert on/off. What time and day that the brand advert will appear etc.
  • It allows consumers to understand the importance of advertisements - Within this age of media and technology advancing. Even though this app is able to assist their audience to reduce the amount of incoming adverts online. The audience will notice how important it is to help adverts to pop up in newsfeed, websites and so on. Similar to how important it is to know about the news, knowing what is going on. This is similar to know how important products are like wipes disinfecting surfaces so your baby will not catch an illness. Or buying an ant spray to kill ants which are in your kitchen, which could be infecting your food that you eat and your family. Without adverts their would not be much to talk about to other people, people compare a lot of products due to adverts like 'the product was not as good as it was advertise' or 'this product does really work like how it was shown on TV'. It helps people to communicate in different ways thus making a relationship with brands.
  • Social networks gaining marketing methods - Similar to the first research reference social networks have evolved into great marketing schemes. In this present day everyone in the world has a smartphone which have many social network apps. With the constant amount of new apps being created and the current popular social networks. The amount of people that visit those networks the company earns millions, especially when the network is free to use. The network also has the power for business to set up their own accounts and pages for their consumers to follow. This makes their marketing schemes more significant. This is how online advertising is growing as anything can be up on the internet and millions of people would of seen it, many online people also becomes famous and become internet stars with social media promoting them to their fans.

OUGD501 - Studio Brief 02: Development: Developments to chosen prototype Part 3

You must show at least 3 iterative stages to the visual development of your prototype. Each stage should bet accompanied by a brief evaluation which leads logically to the next development. Developments should be address: colour, layout, image choices, type choices, materials, scale, etc. all of which should be justified in relation to the brief / client / audience.

From taking the advice from my peers from my previous development work. I made some changes and applied them into the design. I have further made more designs when promoting the app on billboards and display boards, this is shown in some mock ups where the scale of this app can be promoted in a larger scale. In addition as we live in a digital age, most of the display boards in public can be interactive thus showing the apps full potential of restraining adverts online, specifically smartphone users.

I have also experimented with printing out the poster design in a A3 scale to see how the resolution of the posters are like. I have some cartridge paper and some more cardboard paper material for posters. Overall the colour and scale of the poster came out very well.

Below are a series of poster design, mock ups and final design of the app.

OUGD501 - Studio Brief 02: Development: Developments to chosen prototype Part 2

You must show at least 3 iterative stages to the visual development of your prototype. Each stage should bet accompanied by a brief evaluation which leads logically to the next development. Developments should be address: colour, layout, image choices, type choices, materials, scale, etc. all of which should be justified in relation to the brief / client / audience.

To further develop my app I made a wireframe to demonstrate how the app functions e.g: how to stop pop up apps, which adverts they would like to see etc. In addition I have also made a colour version of the app, on example on how the choosing a platform and selecting when the ads will show either a picture or video. Which days it will come on and the time of it etc. And finally the app icon on the phone background display.

Wireframe on the functions of the app:

Feedback:

  • Majority of my peers liked that physical aspects and display of the Apptise app.
  • The functions are very straight forward and easy to understand for any age.
  • Like how there are functions to edit the display of the app (inspired by apple iPhone settings).
  • Maybe an mini stop motion animation maybe appropriate to demonstrate how the app works?
  • The Apptise logo looks dull on the app pages compared to the logo icon. Change the logo on the app pages so it looks the same.
  • Some mock ups poster designs and billboard posters for the final poster design.
  • The colour scheme and typefaces are a suitable choice for the app. The colour psychology of blue is trustworthy and green is good/positive.
  • This app will really reduce the amount of the online adverts, plus the consumers will be less irritated with the brand that they like. With the amount of adverts repeated displaying the brands that they click on the more they will dislike it and then the brand loses consumers.
